Joan Wheeler born Doris Sippel is now and forever “forbidden” to the Sippel family, due to her gross lies and disrespect of the family.
The family picture here is of our mother and father and us Sippel kids. We found the original print in my father’s photo collection in August 2011, with the year it was taken: 1955. Joan Wheeler had the audacity to publish this picture on the back of her book, even though she wasn’t born until January 1956 – two months premature. Her logic for publishing this picture is because Mom was pregnant with her. That doens’t mean a legal thing! By law, Joan Wheeler/Doris Sippel did not legally exist until 1956, therefore a picture taken in 1955 is not legally of her. And since my father had in his possession, the ORIGINAL print of this photograph, only HE had the legal copyright of it. Joan VIOLATED United States copyright laws when she usurped this photograph and LIED to Trafford Publications when she said she had SOLE copyright ownership of this photograph.
Also – there were FOUR living persons in the photograph at the time of the book’s publication, my father, Gert, Kathy and me. Not one “literary attorney,” nor Joan obtained permission to publish MY photograph, nor did anyone ask Gert or Kathy to publish their photograph.
Joan tried to skip around the problem by saying the faces were blurry and obscured by text. Um, no. My mother’s and my brother’s face is clearly visible. There is no text obscuring those two faces. My mother and my brother were deceased at the time of publication. But I was alive at the time of publication (still am) and MY face is clearly visible – and as I said – NOBODY ASKED MY PERMISSION TO PUBLISH MY PHOTOGRAPH.
How dare you Joan? You tried to pull a fast one there and it blew up in your face! Because I made it a SPECIFIC POINT in my discussions with Trafford Publications that you did NOT have the sole copyright ownership of that photograph. I told Mr. Eugene Hopkins that the photo was taken in 1955 and you were not born until 1956. Because of this, (and other violations of the law), your precious book got killed. oh, too bad!
Now, yes, this photograph is freely obtained on the internet, via my facebook page and my Picasa online photo album, and now on this blog, and on my blog. The difference is, it is freely available as a SHARED FAMILY MOMENTO. Joan slapped it on a book to gain monies. SHE WAS TRYING TO MAKE MONEY OFF MY PHOTOGRAPH!!! AND THAT IS A NO-NO! And she got stopped dead in her tracks.
Joan, you can continue LYING on your website that a literary attorney said it was permissible for you to publish that photograph, but the TRUTH is out now. You never spoke to a literary attorney, and if you did, you LIED to them as well as lying to Trafford Publications.
Because Mr. Hopkins told me specifically that the photograph is OFF LIMITS TO YOU.
That’s right Miss Expert Liar: your “forbidden family” is truly forbidden to you, now and for all time. Get Lost Loser! We’re taking back that what you tried to steal from us: our family photograph, our childhoods, our lives, our honor, our family’s honer.
I second that emotion!!
Joan Wheeler has no claim to the name Sippel, period.
Karen Finken Hopefully it will sink in finally
UPDATE November 2016; as older posts are being seen I’m updating with links to my second blog and a Facebook page wherein I expose AGAIN the lies, fabrications and hate that Joan M Wheeler (Doris Michol Sippel) says about me and family. The first book ‘Forbidden Family, A Half Orphan’s Account of Her Adoption, Reunion and Social Activism‘ was published in 2009 but then was pulled from publication by the publisher in May 2011, for libelous material within the book. Then in 2015, she ‘self-published’ a ‘revised’ version calling it ‘Forbidden Family, an adoptee duped by adoption’. This woman has no shame no sense of family honor! Then in 2016 Joan changed her name back to her birth name and rewrote and republished the SAME crap in another book; a Third edition! CALLED ‘Forbidden Family: An Adopted Woman’s Struggle for Identity’! Talk about conning people!
this blog’s title/sub title is… DUPED BY ADOPTION & AN WOMAN’S STRUGGLE FOR IDENTITY, A BOOK STUDY an in-depth analyzes of the books called Forbidden Family; My Life as an Adoptee Duped by adoption & An Adopted Woman’s Struggle for Identity by Joan M Wheeler/Doris M Sippel.
